To the player, all Hard Times workers appear as opaque gold skeletons. Much like a [[wikipedia:Cathode-ray tube|CRT]] image, they leave afterimages trailing behind, and [[Shannon]] can degauss them. Other characters don't see them as supernatural skeletons. Instead, they describe them as grim strangers.
