Various fonts and typefaces are used in Kentucky Route Zero and its promotional materials.

Fonts appearing in-game and on official material

DM Serif



DM Serif
Game logo and title card, 2020. Modified so uppercase K is disconnected. Cardboard Computer chose to switch to this font to give a nod to the opening sequence of Chris Marker's 1983 documentary on memory, Sans Soleil.



Letter Gothic



Letter Gothic
In-game dialogue text, commonly mistaken for Inconsolata. Originally designed by Roger Roberson at IBM's Lexington, Kentucky typewriter plant. Utilized in Selectric electric typewriters.

Game icon "Kentucky Route Zero," "PC Edition," and "TV Edition" texts.


Select Mono Italic

Select Mono Italic
"A game by cardboard computer." heading, temporary developer branding. Designed by Michael McMaster, inspired by IBM's "Light Italic" font used in Selectric electric typewriters.

Game logo and title card (act/scene screens), 2013–2019. Romanization of подкова - "Horseshoe" in Russian.









Custom fonts

Kentucky Route Zero also makes use of custom-created fonts. For example:

"Karaoke"




The "Too Late to Love You" karaoke sequence features a font called "Karaoke".

"Terminal"






Computer text, such as XANADU's or Joseph's features a font called "Terminal". Displays with a screen flicker effect.





"Symbols" found in clickable pop-ups for inspecting objects or speaking to characters, and lower-screen action buttons such as for controlling flashlights, umbrellas, and degaussing.



"Naive"




A custom font called "Naive" was introduced in the 2018 'public-beta' branch on Steam, replacing Podkova for title cards and act screens. Features an effect similar to the Zero text shader. Was likely replaced due to readability issues.
